Ukit/Bhuket
The Ukit/Bhuket people are one of the Orang Ulu tribes found in Sarawak, Malaysia. They are a small minority community living in Sungai Asap Koyan, Belaga. This community moved en masse in 1998 from Sungai Balui, Bakun to a new settlement in Sg. Asap Koyan Belaga. The Bhuket/Ukit people are also considered a subgroup of the Klemantan people. In 2023, the population of Bhuket/Ukit reached a total of 580 people located at UMA UKIT APAU KOYAN, SUNGAI ASAP, 96950 BELAGA, SARAWAK. The Ukit/Bhuket people are known for their weaving techniques. However, many Malaysians (including Sarawakian people) do not know they exist.
Workshop: Food Portrait Art of the
Ukit/Bhuket Community
As Malaysians, we love and are very proud of our food. Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate. But Malaysian food takes it to the next level and we know it! Our food has always been the gesture of peace which allows us to sit, eat and enjoy each other's company despite our differences. It is our differences that makes us unique. These artworks are about showcasing not only the beauty in the variety of the Ukit/Bhuket food but the message that our diversity as Malaysian is equally beautiful.
